The Dakota Center's Individual & Group Program

Individual  Sessions                                                  Group Sessions

The Dakota Center offers individual therapy sessions that are one-to-one with a therapist.  The child's specific needs are addressed in a calm, supportive and relaxed environment. Children learn to express themselves and relate to their world without fear or tantrums. Sessions are typically 45 minutes long with time for parents and therapist to review and consult.

Our Group Program is researched based and designed on a curriculum cycle.  Children may begin our program at any skill training session and we recommend enrollment for your child in all three of the training curriculums. We do not allow a student to be enrolled in summer program unless the child has been enrolled in at least one of our skill training curriculums prior to summer session. Skill training groups are Fall, Winter and Spring Sessions.  Summer program is less structured, but valuable in the practice of skill application.

Our High School Group is a process group with a focus on the social matters of high school students.  This group is inclusive to all students that are in need of social support and are enrolled in high school.  The integration of students with all levels of social abilities encourages higher learning by modeling and creates empathy, understanding and compassion for others.  As one of our students said "compassion and understanding are just a contagious as teasing and ignorant choices, but make you feel a lot better about yourself and the world we live in".

Friday Afternoon group is focused on social engagement and cooperation.  We design the activities to encourage interaction, social connections and build game play skills.  All activities are geared toward the group age and development.

Saturday group, session one is for children ages 5 and 6, enrolled in Kindergarten & 1st grade.  This group teaches transitions and expected appropriate behaviors during social situations and play interactions.  We focus on cooperative play, turn taking, attention and conflict resolution.

Saturday group, session two is split into small groups for students in grades 2nd - 4th and 5th through middle school.  This group is structured with relational activities and the focus is on respect, understanding of personal space and communication.  The middle school group has an additional component of process time regarding bullying and how to handle conflict.
