The Functional Integration Program is a combination of several evidence based programs. It is designed to help improve your child's ability to function in his daily life. Children with developmental delays (Autism, Aspergers, ADHD,etc.) all share some similar problems that effect their ability to function in school, at home, and in the variety of social interactions they face each day. Some of these problems include:
Ability to socialize and achieve academically at age level
Ability to regulate their own behaviors and avoid melt downs.
Ability to easily transition from one activity to another or one place to another
Ability to regulate sensory input
Ability to focus and concentrate appropriately
Ability to move their bodies in a coordinated manner
Ability to express themselves verbally and process auditory input
Ability to carry on a give and take conversation without fixating on special interests
And Many More
To resolve these problems The Dakota center utilizes The Auditory Listening Program, The Reflex Program, The Hemisphere Program and the Movement Therapy Program in addition to counseling and teaching in both individual and group sessions.
The Programs
The Auditory Listening Program works with sensory, speech & language, attention, concentration and motor skills. The Reflex Program that works to relieve problems resulting from retained active primitive reflexes. Movement Therapy that works on building muscle strength, coordination, balance, body awareness and social interaction. In addition to our in house services, The Dakota Center provides referrals and recommendations to other providers that have proven to help the functionality of children with developmental delays.
The Dakota Center addresses your child's areas of need in a structured way we call the Functional Integration Program. Each Functional Integration Program is designed individually for your child. The Dakota Center, like others in the autism community know that there is no one-size-fits-all approach that works for every child. The Dakota Center also understands that any program that only addresses one area of deficit such as diet or behavior or social understanding, etc. is treating just a part of the child’s problems. The Functional Integration Program was developed to focus treatment on the specific needs of the whole child. Our goal is to get children off of behavior "systems" and start them functioning independently at a level of understanding, interaction and expectations that will make them successful in school, at home and in their future as adults.
