Individual therapy sessions offered at The Dakota Center are for children on the Autism Spectrum, children with Sensory Integration Disorder, ADD and Gifted children that need support with social understanding and interactions.

The sessions are based on Greenspan’s Floortime approach, Carol Gray's Social Stories and Michelle Winner's Social Thinking models.  The first session will be with the parent or caregiver in order to obtain a detailed history and answer any questions the family may have.  Each individual session with the child begins with an assessment of the child’s individual strengths and challenges relative to interacting with others. Therapy sessions focus on the child's strength of interaction and teach social development through a three step process of Engagement, Positive Reinforcement Stories and Understanding of Expected behaviors.  Children will learn skills to support interactions with family, the ability to make and sustain friendships and success during the social times of the school day.  The Dakota Center's unique style of therapy sessions offer children the opportunity to learn social appropriate behavior while building emotional bonds, relationships and self confidence.
