Text Box: Children should participate in programs at The Dakota Center if they prefer to isolate rather than interact or are not engaged in play with friends or family. Children whose interactions are inappropriate or are causing a disturbance in public places, such as classrooms or playgrounds and even children that have difficulties with transitions or changes in routine will benefit from our services.  Family members in need of support and resources are strongly encouraged to contact the center for a consultation.

Text Box: The Dakota Center begins treatment with a detailed assessment of the child's current social abilities and behaviors, and teaches them how to interact with others by expanding on the child's current skills in a positive and fun manner.  Work with the child is play based and spontaneous, motivating the child with social difficulties to play and interact with the world, teaching turn taking and social/emotional understanding.  We use a combination of play and stories to identify and share social, emotional and behavioral information.  Our approach to therapy at The Dakota Center is to not only to work individually with the child, but to work with the family too.  Work with the family will include the development of a home program that teaches each family member how to interact with their child and offers each family the opportunity to develop their own therapy plan for their child. We help children and parents develop a close relationship that extends into friendship success.

Text Box: Most insurance plans accepted.  The Dakota Center is a service provider with Imagine! Boulder County. Individual Sessions are 45 minutes and are offered at the center, in your home or the child’s classroom.
